I am deeply inspired by my 99 year old father Leonard, the patriarch of the family, and my mother Norma, the quintessential Italian mother who at 95 still lovingly prepares homemade noodles, risottos, sauces and desserts. They were happily married for 74 years, until my father passed in January 2015, 3 months shy of 100. We are convinced that no one ate better than my father. My mother proudly claimed all the credit for his longevity, though good genes surely played a role!
Extra virgin olive oil is the foundation of most Italian dishes, and it’s no coincidence that that beautiful country also boasts one of the planet’s greatest life expectancy rates. Numerous studies have revealed the benefits of olive oil as an integral part of a healthy diet. As first generation Italians and San Francisco Bay Area residents, my parents instilled in us that “breaking bread” with family and friends is the pinnacle of a life well spent! Special occasions celebrated over a homemade meal is what life is all about!
Here’s to living life to the fullest! As Norma would recommend, pour a glass of Prosecco, gather friends and family around the table, and while you’re at it enjoy our oils and aged balsamics and share them with those you love!
